Professor of Neurosurgery at European University Cyprus, University of Cyprus and Texas A&M University, Dr. Vasilios Zerris is a HARVARD University graduate and has been fully trained in neurosurgery in the USA. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
All of his training took place in the United States of America. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the IVY League Universities of HARVARD and Brown. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and at the same time completed a Master’s degree in Neuroscience at Brown University and a Master’s degree in Public Health at HARVARD University. He was subsequently trained in neurosurgery at HARVARD University – Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Tufts University – New England Medical Center, and Lahey Clinic. He received further specialization in spine surgery at HARVARD University – Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital and specialization in functional neurosurgery at Brown University – Rhode Island Hospital.
His research work is extensive; however special emphasis has been placed on the treatment of brain tumors. Among other distinctions, he has received a 450,000 US dollar grant to conduct research on the use of anaerobic bacteria as carriers in oncolytic anti-cancer therapy. He has been a participating author in a significant number of original contributions to medical and scientific literature.
Professor Vasilios A. Zerris has gained many years of management experience with proven leadership skills. He served as Director of the University Department of Neurosurgery and Director of the Neurosurgical Education Program at Baylor Scott and White, Texas. The Baylor Scott and White Group is one of the largest medical groups in the USA with 34,000 employees, 6,000 doctors, an annual turnover of 6 billion US dollars, 5,500 beds, and over 5 million patients per year.
He has received various international distinctions and awards, including the Oliver Smith Award and the Stanley Aronson Prize, and is also an elected full member of the “SigmaXi” honorary scientific association.
He has been recognized for his outstanding clinical and surgical skills with the title of the Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
