Presentation:<\/u><\/p>\n

Dr. Spiros A. Lazarou, MD, has been actively involved in plastic, craniomaxillofacial, and reconstructive surgery for over 20 years. During most of this time, he was co-director of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Hygeia Hospital, as well as director of the Department of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. He is also a consultant to the Department of Plastic and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at IASO Hospital, and Chief of the Department of Pediatric Plastic and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at IASO Children\u2019s Hospital. He has operated on over 800 clefts.<\/p>\n

Training<\/u><\/p>\n

He received his degree from Johns Hopkins University magna cum laude in 1981 and continued his postgraduate studies at the University of Maryland, where he graduated from in 1985. He then trained in general surgery at Sinai Hospital and at Johns Hopkins University. This was followed by a three-year specialization in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in one of the U.S. \u201ctop ten\u201d programs at Norfolk, and a specialization in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at the United States\u2019 best Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

Research and publications<\/u><\/p>\n

He has published chapters in textbooks and research papers, and has presented and published various innovations in plastic surgery. He recently presented a significant new discovery in the treatment of lip and palate clefts.<\/p>\n

Fields of special interest<\/u><\/p>\n

Today, Dr. Lazarou focuses on aesthetic surgery, craniomaxillofacial injuries, congenital malformations -such as upper eyelid ptosis, cleft lip and palate, and craniosynostosis-, on pediatric plastic surgery such as syndactyly, and congenital pigmented nevi, as well as the repair of complex deformities, such as post-mastectomy deficits.<\/p>\n<\/div>
