Dr. Gerhard M. Friehs is a former President of the Scott & White\/Baylor Healthcare and Director of the Scott & White Neuroscience Institute in Temple, Texas, one of the largest healthcare organizations in the USA. He is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the Medizinische Universit\u00e4t Graz, Austria, a title he also held at Scott & White\/Baylor Healthcare, Texas. He served as Chief of Neurosurgical Trauma, Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery Department, and the Neurosurgical Pain Management Department at Brown University, as well as\u00a0 Vice- Chief of New England\u2019s Gamma Knife Center, also at Brown University.<\/p>\n

Training<\/u><\/p>\n

Dr. Gerhard M. Friehs studied at the Medical School of the Karl-Franzens-Universit\u00e4t in Austria. During his studies, he accepted a research post in neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. He then completed his neurosurgery training at the Karl-Franzens-Universit\u00e4t in Graz, Austria, the largest hospital in Central Europe.<\/p>\n

Research and publications<\/u><\/p>\n

Dr. Friehs is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications, presentations upon invitation, and book chapters. He has made numerous scientific presentations on 4 continents and is a specialist in Functional Neurosurgery for psychiatric diseases as well as in Brain-Machine Interfaces. He holds a Birkmayer Award for research on Parkinsonism, and an ELEKTA Research Award, as well as being the recipient of internal and external funding for research.<\/p>\n

Fields of specialization<\/u><\/p>\n

Dr. Friehs has extensive experience in all fields of neurosurgery and pediatric neurosurgery. He has personally performed thousands of neurosurgical procedures in the United States and Europe. Regarding special fields in neurosurgery, he has been working on functional neurosurgery, neurosurgical pain management procedures, adult and child neurosurgical trauma, functional rehabilitation surgery, and many others.<\/p>\n<\/div>
